What can be more important to a child facing the scary prospect of being relocated to a new home and a new family than the child's self-respect? The members of the Sierra Vista Rotary Clubs are working to protect the dignity of each and every child moving from the Cochise County Children's Center in Huachuca City to a foster family by ensuring they have something as simple as a nearly new suitcase, duffel bag or gym bag to carry their clothes in. For the past three weeks, Rotary members have been clearing out their closets, cleaning up their seldom used suitcases, bags and large back packs and delivering them to the Cochise Children Center. Over 30 bags have been delivered so far and Sissy Stephens from the Children's Center said the need for such items (along with a wish list they have at their front desk) remains constant and, at times, critical. For nearly three decades, the Cochise County Children's Center has been providing invaluable one-of-a-kind support to Southeastern Arizona by helping approximately 450 youths each year in personal and family crisis situations. The Children's Center is a community-based non-profit organization located in Huachuca City helping children from newborn through the age 17.
